Call for Papers
In conjunction with CVPR 2026, the Biometrics Workshop brings together researchers, industry practitioners, and policy leaders to advance responsible biometric innovation.
Biometric technologies are reshaping global identity ecosystems, from national digital ID infrastructures and e-commerce authentication to social welfare, border security, and personalized healthcare. The workshop addresses challenges in accuracy, inclusivity, ethical deployment, real-world environments, multimodal integration, and evolving adversarial threats.
Building on 19 years of CVPR-affiliated workshops since 2006, the workshop seeks impactful research that bridges theoretical excellence with tangible societal benefit. Topics include:
- Next-Gen Sensing and Modalities: Depth, thermal, time-series, behavioral, vein, gait, body, knuckle, and physiological biometrics.
- Robust Fusion Architectures: Score- and feature-level fusion, cross-spectral matching, and multimodal learning under uncertainty.
- Trustworthy Systems: Bias mitigation, privacy-preserving templates, adversarial robustness, and explainable AI.
- Real-World Deployment: Mobile and edge optimization, large-scale performance modeling, and standards evolution.
- Societal Integration: Ethical public-sector use, accessibility for diverse populations, and social-impact assessment.
Why submit? The workshop is renowned for selective rigor, with recent acceptance rates below 29%, and high-impact discourse among a global audience of 150+ practitioners. Accepted papers may lead to special journal issues and industry collaboration. Contributions from underrepresented voices and early-career researchers are especially welcome.

Face, Body, and Person Identification in Real-world Viewing Conditions
Speaker: Alice O’Toole, University of Texas, Dallas
Abstract: Face recognition algorithms are highly accurate at establishing the unique identity of individuals in controlled conditions. In natural viewing conditions, facial identity information is commonly degraded or obscured, such as when viewed at a distance or from extreme angles. When the face is unusable or inaccessible, body shape can constrain identity decisions by supporting or vetoing tentative face identifications. In this talk, Alice O’Toole presents machine-based approaches to body and person identification and explores the challenge of integrating face and body information, drawing on lessons from the flexibility and adaptability of the human visual system.

How to Detect When the Probe in 1-to-N Facial ID is Out-of-Gallery
Speaker: Kevin W. Bowyer, University of Notre Dame, Indiana
Abstract: 1-to-N face matching is the algorithmic engine used to find an investigative lead from a probe image, such as a frame of surveillance video. When the person in the probe is not in the gallery, every result is a false identification. Detecting out-of-gallery probes can reduce wasted investigative effort and wrongful arrests. This talk discusses approaches that detect out-of-gallery probes without using the similarity score between images, evaluated on blurred, low-resolution, and mugshot-quality probes.
Bio: Kevin Bowyer is the Schubmehl-Prein Family Professor Emeritus at the University of Notre Dame. He is a Fellow of the AAAS, IEEE, and IAPR, and has served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence and IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior, and Identity Science. He has also served as General or Program Chair for CVPR, WACV, Face and Gesture Recognition, and the International Joint Conference on Biometrics.
